Partnering with the National Museum of Taiwan History, delivered immersive multimedia for the "Trans-formation" exhibition. We translated a century of Taiwanese women’s history into four digital works, blending animations and interactive installations through seamless technical integration to honor their journey of breaking social constraints.

Challenge

Transforming heavy historical narratives into engaging, emotionally resonant digital experiences

In collaboration with the National Museum of Taiwan History, we provided comprehensive multimedia design and engineering for the special exhibition: “Trans-formation: Movement and Transition of Taiwan Women.” This exhibition traces a century of Taiwanese women’s journeys, exploring how they broke through social constraints—such as foot-binding and institutional gender roles—to find their own paths.

Our role was to translate these profound historical narratives into four digital works (two animations and two interactive installations) while managing the full-scale technical integration of projectors, sensors, and touch systems.

Strategy

Using the "Transit" metaphor to symbolize life’s pivotal movements and inner transitions

We adopted “Movement” as our core creative metaphor. By utilizing the exhibition’s concept of “Domestic” and “International” flight gates, we treated the digital installations as “check-points of the soul.”

  • Narrative Fluidity: Using long-form animation to condense complex historical timelines into digestible, emotional arcs.
  • Spatial Ambience: Using background visuals to create a sense of scale and atmosphere (the “Airport” vibe).
  • Personal Connection: Implementing motion-sensing technology to allow visitors to see themselves within the narrative, literally reflecting their own “inner desires” through digital silhouettes.

Solution

A four-part digital ecosystem blending narrative animation, atmospheric visuals, and personalized interaction

We delivered a holistic digital ecosystem consisting of four distinct works:

  1. The Narrative Feature (Animation): A long-form animation that synthesizes the core stories of 16 historical women, providing visitors with a clear, emotional entry point into the exhibition’s themes.
  2. The Transit Horizon (Atmospheric Animation): Located behind large-scale physical exhibits, this animation simulates the bustling atmosphere of an airport. It uses silhouettes and movement to create a sense of time passing and people traveling, enhancing the “Domestic vs. International” layout.
  3. The Suitcase of Destiny (Motion Interaction): A motion-tracking installation where the visitor’s silhouette is composed of flowing text. Participants use their bodies to “catch” suitcases made of words, choosing between paths like Spiritual Enrichment, World Exploration, Life Evolution, or Mindful Rest. Set against a “text rain” background, this piece offers a personalized “guidance” for the visitor’s own next journey.
  4. The Map of Courage (Touch Interaction): A quiet, exploratory interactive map. On large touchscreens, visitors can freely navigate geographical landmarks associated with historical figures, uncovering hidden stories and archival details at their own pace.

Result

Seamlessly integrating hardware and software to create a "living history" that increases visitor engagement

The integration of these multimedia elements transformed the exhibition into a dynamic “living history.” The hardware—ranging from high-lumen projectors to precision touchscreens—remained unobtrusive yet powerful, supporting a seamless visitor flow.

By blending the “quietness” of history with the “dynamism” of digital interaction, we successfully increased the dwell time of visitors and provided a multi-sensory experience that made the stories of Taiwanese women feel immediate, relevant, and deeply moving.

Insight

Proving that technology's greatest role in museums is not to entertain, but to amplify empathy

Working on a historical exhibition taught us that technology should not compete with history; it should amplify its heartbeat. In a space dedicated to “movement and transition,” our digital works functioned as a spiritual mirror.

We realized that interactive design is most effective when it moves beyond “fun” and becomes a tool for empathy, allowing the modern viewer to stand in the shoes of those who paved the way a century ago.
